C level – IPMA® Level C – Certified Consultant and Coach

Certified consultant and trainer in project management

  • Acts as a consultant and/or mentor with moderate subject matter expertise for individuals and groups of individuals in project management.
  • Responsible for delivering or supporting the delivery of consulting or mentoring services at an individual, team or organizational level.
  • Serves as a consultant or mentor, junior consultant or mentor, probationary consultant or mentor, associate consultant or associate mentor, and similar with limited or moderate responsibilities.
  • Within the last 3 years of experience, the candidate must have at least 6 months of experience with a minimum total of 500 working hours as a consultant or mentor in consulting or teaching activities in project management.

  • After determining the admissibility of the application, the certification body invites the candidate to pay the certification fees or provide proof of the payment already made.
  • Written exam. The exam is a combination of multiple-choice and open-ended questions throughout as a written exam for the Level D 4LC Project Manager Certification. A written exam is not required if the candidate has a valid IPMA project manager certificate of any level.
  • Case Study Evaluation. The Case Study candidate must demonstrate moderate expertise in consultation and/or instruction through 80% of the CE defined in Chapters 3.1-3.9, 4.1-4.5, 5.1-5.5 of the ICB4CCT.
  • Extended interview. Basic and specific ICB4CCT CEs that were not covered by previous assessment steps are assessed.
  • Candidates are allowed to retake the specified parts of the certification procedure once if they are unsuccessful in their first attempt within the same application with the payment of an additional fee of EUR 300 for retaking a specific element.
  • Final assessment of the candidate's passing.
  • For a positive outcome, the candidate is issued an IPMA Level C - Certified Consultant and Coach certificate
Documents submitted by candidates when applying for certification:
  1. CV

The applicant's CV must contain at least:

  • Name and contact information of the applicant:
  • Career history including:
    • the relevant roles of the consultant or instructor in project, program and portfolio management and the positions he held;
    • appropriate formal education (university, etc.);
    • diplomas and courses from accredited institutions of higher education;
    • relevant professional certificates and qualifications;
    • relevant training for project, program and portfolio management;
    • relevant memberships (if any); and
    • relevant professional development including awards, achievements or publications such as books, articles, presentations.

2. Full Self-assessment

The applicant must complete and attach a complete self-assessment according to the attached form.

3. List of consulting and/or mentoring services

The applicant must demonstrate compliance with the eligibility criteria and submit a list of consulting and/or mentoring services for project management with the following information:

  • consulting and/or coaching activities in project management characteristics (such as deliverables, duration, phases, management complexity, etc.);
  • the role of the applicant and responsibilities within the services provided;
  • total duration, time and workload of the candidate's engagement (e.g. 5 years as 25% full-time).

4. Case study

For level C, the applicant must submit at least 1 case study. The applicant for consultant and mentor certification presents representative consulting cases according to the attached form with the following information:

  • context (type, scope, client, other important stakeholders, resources, complexity, etc.);
  • objectives of the task;
  • project and/or permanent organization;
  • provision of consulting/mentoring services;
  • roles and responsibilities of candidates;
  • distinguishing elements of the counseling/mentoring task;
  • results and customer satisfaction.

The main part of the case study should show:

  • counseling and/or mentoring challenges and how they were addressed. The applicant must address the management challenges for at least 5 basic and 5 specific CEs from the IPMA ICB4CCT standard.
  • consideration of counseling or mentoring results, analysis and lessons learned

5. References

The applicant must provide the names and contact information of at least two professionals who are familiar with the applicant's work experience.

Certified trainer for project management

  • Acts as a trainer with moderate subject matter expertise for individuals and/or groups of individuals in project management.
  • Responsible for delivering or supporting the delivery of training programmes, workshops, lectures or seminars with practical training elements.
  • Performs the function of coach, assistant coach, trial coach, etc.
  • In the last 3 years, the candidate must have at least 6 months with at least 500 working hours in project management training activities.

  • Candidates are allowed to retake the specified parts of the certification procedure once if they are unsuccessful in their first attempt within the same application with the payment of an additional fee of EUR 300 for retaking a specific element.

  • For a positive outcome, the candidate is issued an IPMA Level C certificate - Certified Trainer in project management

3. List of coaching services

The applicant must prove how he fulfills the eligibility criteria and submit a list of completed project management trainings. The training list contains:

  • name, place, date and duration of each training session;
  • the number of people who attended each training session;
  • participant feedback with the number and percentage of training participants with positive (good and very good) feedback for each training.

4. Training study

For level C, the applicant must provide at least 1 training study. Each training study must include (but is not limited to) the following information:

  • the content or information transmitted, including its relationship to the IPMA ICB, ICB4CCT competency elements;
  • organization of the training curriculum including structure, format and sequence;
  • training methods used;
  • collected results and customer satisfaction.

The main part of the case study should show:

  • the results of the conducted training;
  • considerations on training results, analysis and lessons learned.

Training also means teaching project, program and portfolio management.

5. References

The applicant must provide the names and contact information of at least two professionals who are familiar with the applicant's work experience.
